Buddy had a meeting with an actor who does a one man show about Luigi Del Bianco, who was the chief carver of Mount Rushmore. It was interesting to hear that an Italian immigrant was the chief carver of one of the most iconic U.S. monuments. The guy wanted Buddy to do a Mount Rushmore cake that would hopefully highlight the first ever Luigi Del Bianco Day. Buddy gathered his crew for ideas about the cake and they decided to go with a full replica.
Buddy’s main sculptor Ralph was very nervous about the pressure of making duplicating such an iconic monument. Ralph struggled with the large task. Buddy actually wanted to sculpt one of the faces as a new challenge. Buddy said he loved to be underestimated because it always made him rise to the challenge. Buddy was working on Abe Lincoln and accidently grabbed Thomas Jefferson’s nose, which was meticulously sculpted by Ralph earlier. Ralph was very irritated by Buddy’s impromptu nose job for Jefferson, but Buddy is the boss. Buddy worked on his Lincoln face for seven hours straight and it came out good.
Buddy started to construct the mountain for the faces. Huge amounts of rice krispies treats and cake made up the giant mountain. The whole crew layered the mountain with dust, fondant, gloss, and other techniques and it looked great. Buddy then created some awesome gravel out of chocolate. Carlo’s Bakery delivered the cake and everyone was amazed by the massive cake. Buddy even fell while pulling the cake off the truck because it was so big. Buddy said a few words at the ceremony and his charisma shined brightly. The guy who ordered the cake said it was a true work of art.
Marrisa promised to make Buddy’s sister a chocolate peanut butter cake. She was not thrilled to do it, but Buddy’s wife demanded it. The rest of the crew pitched in to help Marissa make her cake at first, but then the old timers razzed her about wanting measuring utensils. Marissa struggled with the special cake order, but she was able to finish it. Buddy decided to taste the cake and he loved it, but I think if he wanted her to make 1000 more for the bakery like he said, her head would have exploded.
At the end of the show during the credits we saw Mary return to the shop and declare “I’m back!”
