Grace’s daughter Bartolina was turning 16 and Grace wanted everything to be perfect. Bartolina is Buddy’s God daughter and she has gone through a lot of medical problems to get to her sweet sixteen so of course she needed an immaculate cake. She wanted an under the sea themed cake with a lot of special requests. Buddy was given the task to amaze everyone and she even wanted a real fish tank in the cake. Buddy got to work on the construction and called in a favor to some friends in Las Vegas who build aquariums. Carlo’s bakery’s top sculpture Ralph made some realistic fish. Grace wanted the cake and the 250 cookies to be amazing. Grace even called Ralph’s fish horrible, which offended the workers.
Buddy wanted to use a special ice malt technique to make the coral look great. Buddy wanted Marissa to learn the new technique and it worked out well. Buddy wanted cake fish swimming on the top of the cake using propellers, but the motor quickly cut out. They replaced the motor and it worked well. Buddy scratched and poked the coral effects on the cake with great detail and it looked awesome. The final assembly of the cake started to pop and make it look like a real coral reef. They had to rush the delivery because they were a bit behind schedule. They had a dramatic scene where Buddy was not sure if his delivery truck was clear of an oncoming train. Buddy was more than happy with the final cake and declared it, “best cake ever!” Bartolina was also very impressed and said it was “sick” in a good way.
Mauro took an order from “Lifelock” for a retirement cake for a guy Shawn Henry who was in charge of cyber crimes in the FBI. Mauro decided to make the cake mirror the guy’s career through the years. The cake was built to tell the guy’s life story. Mauro had a personal issue with identity theft and was happy to show appreciation to guy who made it his career to stop it. The cake turned out good and Shawn was blown away by the gesture of the cake and the details. Shawn was choked up by the piece of art and Mauro was thrilled by the emotional response.
